Have you ever wondered why we have weeds? I’ve been helping a friend pull weeds in her yard. Often when I pull weeds I am reminded that weeds can be a lot like people. Have you ever thought about that? Some people are like beautiful flowers, always happy and smiling. Some people are just like weeds; crabby, ugly and quite a nuisance! I’m not saying all weeds are ugly, and I’m not saying people can be ugly all the time. But sometimes there can be a striking resemblance!
I decided to check biblical references for weeds. The one that spoke most clearly was Matthew 13:37-41 NIV. This is Jesus explaining the Parable of the Weeds. “He answered, ‘The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels’.”
What a great lesson from Jesus! I guess the best thing we can do for the weeds among us is to love and pray for them. I certainly want to be one of God’s smiling flowers. What about you?
Blessings,
Marie
