Precious Gifts
While unpacking Christmas decorations, I found one of my most precious gifts. It’s a little mouse with a small chip out of one of its ears. It probably cost less than a dollar, and would have no value to anyone else.
It is precious because a former student gave it to me. I worked at a very poor inner city school for two years. I think this is the only gift I received while teaching there. These students had very little, certainly not enough money to buy gifts. This child thought enough of me to give me a gift, and that meant everything to me!
Another reason I love it is because it is flawed. It makes me realize that we all have our flaws. God loves us anyway, much in the same way that I love that little mouse. I am far from perfect, but I can always count on God no matter what.
It is a simple reminder that the most wonderful gift of all is God’s love. Gifts don’t have to be expensive or fancy, the best one’s come from the heart.
Blessings,
Marie
